More trains

Today's plan is to ride on the Kurobe Gorge Railway. We make the mistake of catching the local train
The bullet train it aint

which stops at every village station en route, meaning a travel time of about 2 hours past endless rice fields.

We arrive at Unazukionsen and my travel partner makes a new friend.

We are surrounded by hordes of screaming Nipponese tourists but find our way onto our luxury carriage, complete with seats and windows; pro-tip:sit on the right if you want to see anything apart from a concrete wall-the locals here refer to the left side as "the loser side". Anyway the views are quit stunning.

The railway was built originally to supply material for building their version of the Snowy Mountain Scheme.
After our return to Unazukionsen we take a short perambulation around town

and then we take the local train for a few stops and then by shinkansen back to Toyama.

For dinner we return to our favourite izakaya,

despite the fact that one of the lovely young cooks told me that I remind her of her grandfather.
